Welcome to the Humanities Extended Degree Programmes for BA/ BSocSci students at UCT!
The academic support for the four-year or Extended General Degree Programmes in the Humanities Faculty is run by the Humanities Education Development Unit (Humanities EDU or HUM EDU). We hope you will settle in well here and soon feel at home - socially and academically. The HUM EDU team are here to help you do exactly that! University is very different to school and so we have provided you with all the information you need in this website, to give you some basic guidelines for your university experience. Please take the time to read through the various tabs to help you find your feet.
In response to the current Covid-19 pandemic and governmental lockdown levels, the Humanities faculty at UCT is taking a PDL approach (Physically-Distanced Learning). This means that your home base for your link to the Humanities ED Unit, as well as many of your courses, is on Vula, UCT’s online collaboration and learning system. The Humanities EDU Vula page is one of the main ways we will provide you with information and advice, as well as ways to connect to us.
In addition to the unit staff, there is an orientation team and a mentoring team in the faculty. There is also a Humanities Extended Degree Student Council (HUM EDSC) who are there to represent all students on the Extended Degree Programmes, and take up issues on your behalf. Please get to know the members of the EDSC.
We look forward to getting to know you better and hope you will soon see the HUM EDU as your home base.
Wishing you a very happy and successful time at UCT!
